Time to take a little daydream vacation! :)Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17344618274130981192noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20334658.post-92183765857490480742015-10-01T12:51:00.001-07:002015-10-01T12:51:08.874-07:00Busy BusyDoing an accelerated nursing program with a family is definitely a challenge. 100-200 pages of reading per week, 2-3 tests/quizzes every other week, half day labs once per week and 6+ hours at the hospital each week. I'm meeting some great people. We're such a diverse group, ranging in age from 22 to 60+, mostly women with about 1/5 the class men. We're all in the same classes most of the time so we're getting to each other much faster than we probably would in any other program. We'll probably be sick of seeing each other by the end of the program.

There's no time for me to do much of anything but studying, no quilting, no knitting, no fun reading, although I have listened to quite a few audiobooks with all the time I spend commuting back and forth now. And thank you Amazon Prime Music, for all of the Classics Playlists (for studying) and for adding Imagine Dragons, Phillip Phillips, Maroon 5, Lorde and Mumford and Sons (for fun).

With fall now upon us and winter approaching, I'll make good use of the videos I took while on a cruise this past January. There are few things more relaxing to me than the sound of the ocean.

Blogger's being difficult and not letting me post a picture. Just imagine sitting in a deck chair with your feet up with nothing but blue skies and ocean all around.Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17344618274130981192noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20334658.post-82924615453369237812015-08-03T09:23:00.000-07:002015-08-03T09:23:34.980-07:00ChangesAll of my studying paid off. I was accepted into nursing school and will start in just 3 weeks. This acceptance brings with it a lot of changes and challenges. I will be at school or in clinicals 4 days a week which means I'll have less time to be with my kids for homeschooling. Because of this, we've decided that both DDs will we doing a high school correspondence program on-line while helping my 2 youngest DSs when I'm not here. Oldest DS will now have to be up and out early so that I can drop him at college 2 days a week-a big change for him since he's used to sleeping in. He's also going to have 2 classes that go until around 10 pm-another change. Since he's still not driving yet, this was the only way we could work his classes so that someone could drop him off and pick him up on time. He'll be spending a lot of down time on Wed. between classes, hopefully studying but more likely goofing off. He is a 17 year old boy after all.

Speaking of driving, DD 1 S will be going for her learner's permit today. I think now it will be a race to see which oldest will get their license first. M is a very cautious driver (unusual for a teenage boy, I know). Because of this, he's been reluctant to get behind the wheel to build up the required 45 hrs. of driving time. We have three weeks (pre-start of school for everyone) to get as much driving time as possible for both kids.

The program I'm going into is a 12 month intensive program. Because of the pace of the program, I'm going to have to spend a lot of time both in class and studying. This means less time to get things done at home. I've set my oldest three the task of making dinner three nights per week, their choice for the menu. I remember when I was in high school, my sisters and I would be responsible for making dinner at least a couple of nights each week, so I'm pretty sure my kids can handle it. Three weeks to teach them how to make a wider variety of dinners than mac and cheese, spaghetti, hamburgers or pizza.

The prospect of having little free time for the next year has me trying to get through a mile long "to do" list. If I can accomplish what I want to, I should have 2 quilts to share pictures of as well as a linen closet redo, along with a whole lot of rearranging/straightening/cleaning/pitching out the junk. Fingers crossed I can get everything done.

In the meantime, here is a pic of DDs and their two best friends working on a physics experiment from about about 2 1/2-3 years ago. All but the youngest are now teenagers.
I have just one more test to go this semester then I can get back to doing so sewing and blogging. I've been meaning to post for ages but you know how life is. This is the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway week and I really wanted to take part again but I didn't have anything ready, so maybe next time. You can check out the other giveaways here.

I do have an excuse though. I've decided to go back to school and get a second degree...this time, a BS in Nursing. There's a program at the university I graduated from that allows you to get a BSN in one year if you already have a BA or a BS. First though, I have to take care of 7 prerequisites, 3 of which I have to redo because my sciences are well past the 5 year expiration date. So, I'm trying to do 5 of the 7 classes during the summer while my kids are taking a break from homeschooling, leaving me only 2 to manage during the "school" year. Classes officially start Monday but I've got my books and have already started working my way through some of them.

I may not post much between now and August but I'll still be checking out other people's blogs.

Wish me luck. :)Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17344618274130981192noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20334658.post-74479951969592922302014-03-17T07:07:00.000-07:002014-03-17T07:12:07.276-07:00Design Wall MondayI don't have anything new that I'm currently sewing because I've been spending time cutting my batiks into nickels, 2.5" strips and the random 2-3.5"x5" brick. This is only one set, I've got another set cut and about 18 more to cut into.

I've also got a little wall hanging that I'm finishing up from teaching a beginning quilting class to 8-14 year old homeschool co-op kids. The 8 and 9 year old boys in the class did far better at this project than the 11-14 year old girls. I should have taken pictures but never thought to bring my camera.

I never got around to showing the last baby quilt I made. I got it delivered just a couple of weeks before the baby's arrival. His 5 year old "big" brother helped pick out a lot of the fabrics for the snowball blocks. I didn't get a close up of the quilting but it's just wavy intersecting lines with loops in the black corners.
It feels like we've had about a billion inches of snow this year. Nearly every week since mid-December, schools have been closed at least one day for either extreme cold temperatures or snow-mostly snow. This winter feels more like when I was going to school in Indiana rather than most other winters here in Virginia. I think I can safely speak for a lot of Virginians and say "We'd like spring to start any day now, please!" BTW, this snowfall was predicted at 2-4 in. yesterday afternoon and we're expecting at least another inch. That's another trend this year; the snow totals have been off the mark more often than not exceeding predicted totals.

This was taken two days ago when temps were around 60.

My 8 year old ds just came up with a new concept. He's not homesick, he's warm and sunny days sick. At least they've gotten good use of their sleds this year.

Here's wishing everyone sunny and greener days!
Here is what I'm working on right now. It's the baby quilt that I mentioned, oh, about a month ago. Right now it's at the sandwiched waiting to be quilted stage but I haven't taken another picture. Yesterday was the baby shower but since I've got a little guy running a fever I didn't make it. Which is a good thing, since the present was still waiting to be quilted. The baby is due at the end of the month but, fingers crossed, I'll have the quilt finished by the end of the week. (It just depends on how quickly H. recovers and whether or not anyone else gets sick.) This will be the first quilt I've finished or even worked on since last March.

I haven't been idle though. I've been working on crocheting. I, along with some friends, have made several baby blankets and scarves that were donated to foster children on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. If you're considering ways to give to others, please include the residents of this community in your thoughts. This is one of the poorest counties in this country with many homes holding up to 13 people because of a lack of affordable housing as well as little chance of earning a reasonable income. Instead of asking for monetary donations, this website includes lists of needed items for the various communities on the reservation. (http://friendsofpineridgereservation.org/projects/) You can read more about the reservation here and here.
I loved reading all of the replies. I was reminded of some shows that I had missed and given a heads up on some to check out. (A few of you said you don't have satellite or cable, me either. Everything I watch is floating somewhere out there is cyber space with the exception of a few library picks.)

Now on to the winners...

First pick was #67
Lisa Marie -
I like some of the newer shows on USA Network -- Covert Affairs, White Collar, etc.

Second pick was #159
Jane -
Criminal Minds, Castle, Downton Abbey, and Game of Thrones. Thanks for the give-away.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my blog. I wish I could have given everyone a fabric bundle. But it's was so much fun, I'm sure I'll be doing this again.
It's a batik carpenter's wheel that I made for dh. I started this around his birthday WAY back in 2010. I hand quilted inside the batik pieces with different variegated threads then machine quilted wavy lines in the black radiating out from the center. It's backed with a black and white word and hearts fabric. (Amour, je t'aime, amour ti amo, I love you repeats) It took some work but I'm happy with how it turned out and dh likes it.
And just for fun, here are pics of some curly icicles that formed on Tuesday after our night of freezing rain followed by more snow.

Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17344618274130981192noreply@blogger.com29tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20334658.post-42448936639538289732013-12-11T02:07:00.000-08:002013-12-11T02:07:43.297-08:00My Dad

You may have noticed that I haven't posted a whole lot this year. Part of the reason for that is that I've been putting off this post since February. My dad passed away 8 months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He found out just a day or two after his 67th birthday at the end of May. (He hadn't smoked in more than 30 years, but apparently, that didn't matter.) I went out to spend time with him and my sisters in September during which we talked about me bring the kids out once he was feeling up a bit better. He found out in early December that the chemotherapy drugs they were giving him weren't working and that he would have to try and get approval and assistance paying for a newer, much more expensive drug. December 23 he went into the hospital with a collapsed lung. I was on a plane the next day and stayed at the hospital with him for the next week to keep him company and be his advocate with the doctors and hospital staff. He underwent a surgical procedure while I was there to try to keep his chest cavity from filling up with fluid caused by the cancer. It was painful but towards the end of my stay he was doing better, had been approved for the new drug and was set to be released the day after I was scheduled to leave. We spent the week talking about all kinds of things and the last day I was there we talked about plans for the future including him wanting to come out to visit us and his plans to look into working as a fitness instructor for a cruise line. The day I left was the last time I got to see him. Even though we were hopeful, I cried the whole way back to the airport.

One week later, he was back in the hospital with pneumonia. This time, my older sister arranged to go stay with him. The hope was that she would spend a week there while he recovered and started on the new chemotherapy. He was only in the hospital a few days for the pneumonia, but before my sister's week long stay was up he had to be taken back to the hospital for a collapsed lung (this time the other side). The last 2 weeks of his life were spent in the hospital undergoing the same painful procedure, followed by a stoke which left him unable to communicate to anyone when something happened to the tube inserted to drain his chest cavity, apparently causing him so much pain that he went into a catatonic state for hours before anyone could figure out what was wrong. Within days, his body just finally gave up. My older sister called me constantly during her 2 1/2 weeks with our dad including from his bedside the hour before he died and then again to tell me he was gone. Within hours, I was on a plane back to Phoenix to help my sisters plan his memorial and beginning taking care of his affairs.

I'm thankful that my sister's work allows her to telecommute and that her bosses were flexible and understanding when she couldn't get as much work done as normal while helping our dad. I'm sorry that my sister had to see him suffer so much at the end but eternally thankful that he didn't die alone. I'm so grateful that I got to spend that week with him and so very sad that my kids never got to spend much time with him because we lived so far apart. I would make tentative plans to take everyone out to see him but things just never seemed to work out. I knew writing this post would be hard and didn't feel I right posting anything until I did. So, in true procrastinator style, I just stopped posting. I also stopped quilting after I finished dh's quilt which I had brought with me to Phoenix to hand quilt while sitting with my dad. And I stop doing almost any exercise which would make my dad really sad about since he taught 13 exercise classes a week including two the day he went to the hospital at the end of May for trouble breathing because there was over a liter of fluid keeping his left lung from inflating. Even while going through chemotherapy, he would ride his bikes for miles most days.

Growing up, my dad rarely ever got sick. He was always healthy and active, often riding his bike to and from work. My sisters were always more athletic than me and I was never big on being part of a team but I would try from time to time different exercise programs because it made my dad happy. He was never very talkative but tried to be encouraging and supportive of each of his three daughters. He taught us how to enjoy life and not take ourselves too seriously. He was blue collar and had laid back approach to living. I remember him waking us up early in the morning to play in the first snow after moving from FL to TN, doing donuts in snow in our VW bus to get us to laugh, dressing as Lucky Louie the clown for children's church many Sundays when were were young, taking each of us out to eat on our 13th birthdays, giving me a delicate gold caduceus necklace to encourage my desire to become a doctor and always being ready to help me, his artistically challenged daughter, whenever I needed help with making posters and such for school. He could juggle, make balloon animals, rip a phone book in two, play guitar and draw great pictures. He told us stories about learning to ride a unicycle when his sub would surface while in the Navy. During the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he would walk his black lab down the street while riding his unicycle. When I was in middle school, he joined Master Swimmers where he trained and competed for awhile. On his 49th birthday, he earned a blue belt in Hapkido. For his 50th birthday, he began the process of becoming a certified fitness instructor. He was a volunteer teacher at his local YMCA while he worked full time. He won a body building competition in the senior division. By the time he "retired", he was supplementing his retirement income teaching 13 classes a week in aerobics, pilates and yoga. His students spanned a wide age range including a woman in her late nineties.

He used to say he had a black belt in "corn fu" since he was a master at telling corny jokes. He wore T-shirts with sayings like "I'm out of my mind. Please leave a message." If someone teased him about falling asleep in his chair, he wasn't napping. He had a photographic mind and he was developing the film.

I've been working on cutting <strike>a million</strike> a bunch of novelty fabrics for a snowball baby quilt for a friend. Although, for the first time ever, I managed to also cut the side of my finger today while I was slicing through fabric. That will teach me to pay more attention to the task at hand (literally).

The baby's due next month so I'm hoping to get the quilt done this week. However, knowing me, I'll probably finish it right before delivery. I, also, want to get some pajama pants made for all of my kids. I picked up some fun flannels at Joann's on Black Friday and can't wait to cut into them.
Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace. I've wanted to join in on the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day for a few years but things just didn't fall in place for me to participate before. Not this year. I've been cutting 5" squares for a baby quilt I'm working on and happened to stumble onto a blog post a few days ago about the giveaway. Since I've cut out more than 500 squares this week, I have fabric to share, ready to go and I have time to post today.

So, without further ado, I'm giving away not 1 but 2 stacks of 64 5" novelty print squares. Both are identical fabrics though the pictures within each square may vary slightly. They come from a range of designers and manufactures from Timeless Treasures Snack Attack to Robert Kaufman Urban Zoologie. They're pretty much gender neutral and if sewn all together in an 8x8 square would make a 36" square for a baby blanket without borders. (I'd suggest borders to make it a little bigger.) Here's what you get...

To win, please leave a comment and answer the question: What is your favorite tv show(s) and/or movie(s)(current or older)? I'm currently hooked on Arrow, Dracula, Supernatural, Doctor Who and The Walking Dead, though I'm also a big fan of Buffy and Firefly. Basically, I like darker shows preferably with a healthy dose of sarcastic humor and I can't pick just one favorite.A commenter just reminded me. I forgot Castle! How could I?

The giveaway ends Friday, December 13 at 8 p.m. EST. I'll pick 2 winners at random either with a random pick generator or numbers in a hat depending on how many comments I get. Please make sure that I can contact you. If you don't have a blog, please include your email addy. If I can't get in touch with you, I'll have to choose someone else.

Good luck and have fun checking out all the great blogs taking part in the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17344618274130981192noreply@blogger.com174tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20334658.post-64382911525513374622013-09-30T19:37:00.001-07:002013-09-30T20:09:21.219-07:00All for MeeeeeI LOVE going to the movies. (but only during discounted times) My senior year in high school, my best friend and I went the our town's $1 movie theater nearly every week followed by a trip to IHOP. Yes, we were party animals! At college, I went to a small school but it was across the street from Notre Dame so most weekends I had a choice of up to 3 movies all FREE! I didn't go every weekend but I went quite a bit including an all-night cartoon movie marathon the week before finals. (I was one of more than a hundred study procrastinators.) Once I had kids, I found free summer movies which we did for a few years. It took me almost 10 years of living in this area to find a cheap movie theater. It's a great little movie theater that has $2 Tuesdays. We are often some of the only people in the movies because we homeschool and can go in the early afternoon. Just this year I've found Rave cinemas has $5 for the first showing of any movie each day and $5 on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (depending on the theater).

So, what does all of this have to do with the title? Well, Saturday I decided to go see Elysium while dh was in charge of the kids on Sunday morning. I invited a few friends but everyone had plans. When I walked into the theater, I was the only one there. So, the theater was All for Meeeeeee! This was the first and probably the only time this will ever happen to me but I thoroughly enjoyed it! (That's the introvert in me.)

So, Thanks Rave Cinema!!! You made this introverted, movie-lover very happy this weekend.

For those who don't know, "All for Meeeee" is a Lord of the Rings movie reference.
As a parent, I can't imagine how much pain they must be going through. I pray that they will eventually find some peace.
Growing up, my dad entertained us with endless corny jokes, which helped keep us laughing but also, colored my sense of humor.

Later, when I went back to college to finish my degree, I was introduced to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series during an English lecture. I had heard of it but hadn't seen any since I wasn't terribly impressed with the movie. I'm so glad I decided to give the series a shot. The sarcastic, twisted take on horror and science fiction is definitely my cup of tea. Joss Whedon definitely has a knack for this. Buffy, Firefly, and Angel(especially when James Marsters returned as Spike). Firefly is a great alternate take on the space cowboy idea with actually combining space and westerns. Nathan Fillion is perfect as Captain Mal Reynolds.

Last year, I discovered a few new favorites. A preview for Torchwood: Children of Earth peaked my interest which led me to watch the whole series. (Definitely more "adult" content that Doctor Who) Torchwood, in turn, led me to Doctor Who. I love this show. I've only watched the current series not the ones from the 60's through the 80's. Each new Doctor takes some getting used to but they're all so fun in their own way.

On the horror front, Supernatural is an awesome show. I miss the Bobby character (Jim Beaver) but I like that their including more Cas (Misha Collins).

Haven plays with sci-fi influenced by Stephen King's own twist humor. Don't think of humor when you think of Stephen King? How about in Under the Dome when King tells part of the story from the groundhog's perspective just before it gets sliced in half by the dome?

I have to include Warehouse 13 in the mix. It's not particularly twisted but still fun to watch.

If you, like me, have a twisted sense of humor and watch too much tv, I would suggest you give these shows a shot. And, if you know of any movies, tv shows or books that are similar, let me know. I'm always looking for a good time waster.
While grocery shopping, I found frozen pie crust that uses vegetable shorting instead of lard. I had my monthly knitting, crocheting, quilting group meeting on Tuesday. Usually there are only a few people there plus kids. I love apple pie so I decided to make 2, one for the group and one for home.

Now, as I've noted before, I'm a huge procrastinator. HUGE! I'm the leader/coordinator/whatever for the group and because people asked, I changed the meeting from Sunday afternoons to Tuesday at 10. We rarely ever get out of the house that early. It takes us at least 15 min. to drive to the meeting which doesn't include the eternity it takes to get everyone ready and in the car. The recipe called for 40 min. cook time. So, keeping these points in mind, when do you think I started the apple pies? Not the night before, like I had planned. Not 7 a.m. after getting up and getting my day going. Nope, I started leisurely peeling, chopping, coring 14 apples sometime after 8 then didn't get the pies in the oven until about 9:00.

As Murphy's Law dictates, the pies actually took almost an hour until they were done. We left the house 5 min. after we were supposed to be at the meeting. My friend even called me when we were a few minutes away to see if I was actually coming. Ooops! You think that would be enough right? Wrong. I get there and they were outside waiting. Odd, they could have just waited for us inside, right? Nope. The doors were locked. They're NEVER locked during the day. And, of course, no one here has a key. We stand around for a few minutes discussing options when another friend pulls up late for the meeting. Does she have a key? Nope.

I suggest my house. Nope too far for one. Chuck E. Cheese is suggested. Nope, another doesn't want to introduce it to her 2 year old just yet. Finally, I suggest the nearby library. They have a community room and maybe, just maybe it's available. All agree and off we go. On the way I think about bring the apple pie into the library. You can eat in the community room but I decide that it would be a bit much especially since when we arrive we find the library parking quite full. What's up with that on a Tuesday morning during school? We all had to park on the far side of the parking lot. No big deal, there are a couple of picnic tables outside and it's a beautiful day in the upper 60's so once everyone parks, I tell them change of plans, we're going to go sit at the picnic tables and eat our pie before going inside. We start the trek across the parking lot to the picnic tables and the kids start to bulk. There's so bird poo and no table clothes to cover it up. Hmm, now what? Oh wait, I think I still have a hospital drape (big, blue water-proof cloth) in the back of my van. We head back to my car, right in front of which is a nice sized grassy area.

So our inside knitting meeting turned into a outside apple pie picnic on one of the most beautiful days of the year. We spent the whole meeting time outside chatting while the kids played.

A whole chain of events came into play to make that such a wonderful morning. Me being late made it so that we didn't miss our friend's arrival. A second friend that hasn't ever come before decided to come and she was the reason for not heading to my house since she lives further away. (Being at my house would have meant we spent the time inside.) The locked doors had us looking for alternative locations. The unusually busy library parking lot had us parking near the grass. An unseasonably warm day plus having the pie to share had us outside. If any of these things had been different, we wouldn't have had nearly such a great day. It still would have been a good day but not nearly so wonderful. And the second pie, it was a big hit with dh. He's asked me for another, which I guess I'll make today or tomorrow. I forgot to take a picture until the second was half gone.

I got the dutch apple pie recipe from Allrecipes here. Yup, he knows about the "surprise" quilt but he still hasn't seen it yet and he's not going to until I finish. :P
Speaking of finished quilts, how about a peek at the baby quilt I finished in record time. I made another I-Spy backing. I like the I-Spy backs but they do require a good bit of extra work. Oh, well. What are all these great novelty prints for, if not for playing with? This quilt includes a variety of sweet treats as well as newly acquired VW buses and Vespas! I even found Pacman ghosts fabric (not included in this quilt). I really want to add marshmallows, pancakes, waffles and the Jack and Jenny wellies but I promised myself no more new fabrics until a make at least 3 more quilts to bust some stash.

I was trying to decide between a black or white background, but some people don't like black for baby quilts and white gets dirty faster. This is the quilt I've been working on as a surprise for dh since Aug. 2010 according to a blog post from way back when. I had set it aside because I didn't do some of the corner squares correctly. I had hoped to finish the whole thing before dh had gotten back from his trip but being sick messed up that plan. It's sandwiched, partially machine quilted in the black squares and the grid of the border and the binding is made. I decided I wanted to do some hand quilting, so I'm doing the batiks in variegated threads. It's on the hoop right now, that's why I don't have a current picture. I'm hoping to have it all done by the 26th. It's slow going though, trying to work on it when dh isn't around.
I'm a couple of days behind on posting every day but I do have a few posts started so there are likely to be a few days with multiple posts.
In the meantime, you can check out other design walls at Judy's blog.

It was most of our first time seeing it and it was truly amazing. We got there in the afternoon and were treated with a rainstorm on the horizon with the sun setting behind it.

My camera's not great so I didn't get the best shot. It's good that I went with my nephews. Being preteen boys, they were far more adventurous than most of us and led us down a steep trail with stunning views.

There was one incident that I'd like to hear other peoples opinion's about. When we were up on one of the observation paths (far from any lower trails), I let one of my nieces (16) and the boys (12) each toss a small rock over the edge. My sisters and other two nieces had walked further on and did know anything was going on. This outraged one older couple and another women with them who were quite vocal in their disapproval. They insisted that they were going to hurt someone down below. Once they realized that I was with them, they proceeded to have an exchange between themselves about "How these people come to this country and don't follow the rules" etc. 1)I would never have allowed them to throw the rocks if I thought there was ANY chance of them hurting someone. 2)My sisters wouldn't have had a problem with it either. My younger sister probably would have thrown a few herself just for spite. 3)There were no signs or warnings about not throwing rocks over the guardrails. 4)I was the only Muslim in the group and our family lines can be traced back to 3 Native American tribes so it's not exactly like I'm new here.

Now, I tend to be non-confrontational, so I didn't engage them at all except to say that they were my nephews, hoping that that would stop their diatribe about foreigners-it didn't work. One of them took it upon herself to have a little chat with one nephew before I could make it back over to him. After she left, I explained to him that he hadn't done anything wrong and that I would never have let him do it if there was a chance of him hurting anyone. Then I let him throw his one rock. The nephew that got the "talking to" hasn't had to deal with prejudiced people too much, my other nephew's father is Mexican and my sister told me they've heard it before and are used to the stares and occasional comments, how ever moronic they are.

So, my question is: What would you have done in that situation? Would you have let the kids toss the rocks down? Would you have confronted the couple? Would you have ignored them? Sorry for being so lax. Unfortunately, all of my recent pictures are on our laptop which I don't use very much and never when I'm blogging. (Don't ask me why I put them there. I have no idea.)
Life as usual is busy. After taking my trip to visit my mom and then my dad and sisters (which was great), dh went to visit his family. While he was gone, I had a never ending cold that kicked my fanny. Usually when he goes on trips I do some big paint project but this time I had planned to do tons of quilting. Didn't happen. :( I got some cutting done and finished piecing and layering a quilt for him but didn't get the quilting finished. It was going to be a surprise so now I'll try and get it finished by our anniversary (16 years on Dec. 26).
I had a baby shower to go to last weekend. When the invite went out, I thought it said it was going to be next weekend. Imagine my surprise when I double checked the date and found I had only 4 days to finish the baby quilt. I had only cut out about half the pieces I needed. That would have been ok except I'm a huge procrastinator so Friday morning I cut the rest of the pieces and got the I-Spy back partially finished then went about my day. I ended up staying up all night getting it pieced and quilted. I normally hand stitch the binding to the back but dh suggested I just finish the whole thing by machine. I was reluctant but time was not on my side with just 8 hours left to finish the quilt, sleep some and take care of normal, everyday stuff. I didn't do my best work on the binding and I don't think I'll use that method again since I really wasn't happy with the results but I had not choice but to give it to her as it was. Note to self: Stop procrastinating so much!!!
I'm hoping to transfer my pics in the next couple of days so that I won't have boring blog posts. My poor blog only has 9 posts so far this year, which is truly pathetic. Let's see if I can manage a post a day for the rest of the year. In the meantime, here is a pic of dh and me
